Design Principles for Ultimate Mechanical Stability

JPE specializes in developing and realizing custom high-tech systems and scientific instruments for ambient, vacuum, and cryogenic environments. Achieving extreme stability in such conditions is a major challenge. In this lunch lecture, Robin Trines, mechanical architect at JPE, will share design strategies ranging from smart material selection to advanced thermal management. These principles are demonstrated in a technology setup comparing the stability of two optical cavities under thermal disturbances. With a custom interferometry system, deformations are visualized through fringe patterns, providing a direct comparison of the different design approaches.
