Join us for a insight in a low threshold skill course which gives a practical insight in a PhD project in the MoM (Mechanics of Materials) section of ME!

During this course, you will simulate the thermo-mechanical behavior of a multi-layer system. You’ll start with a practical experiment showcasing the effect of thermo-mechanical behaviour in a bi-metal strip. Following that, you will perform a 2D simulation on that strip using a provided (.proc) file, which you can run on your own laptop.

After this, you’ll explore a 3D quarter-chip model in Marc Mentat, which is likely your first experience with 3D simulation in Marc Mentat. You’ll experiment with different parameters and observe how chip warpage develops.

Before we begin, we’ll visit the Multiscale (MSL) Lab in Catalyst for a short tour of the advanced equipment used in this field.
